Chino

Chino is a city located in San Bernardino County, California, United States. It is part of the Inland Empire region of Southern California. The city is known for its rich agricultural history and has evolved into a suburban community with a diverse population.

History

Chino was originally part of the Rancho Santa Ana del Chino, a Mexican land grant given to Antonio Maria Lugo in 1841. The area was primarily used for cattle ranching and agriculture. The city was incorporated on February 28, 1910.

Geography

Chino is situated in the southwestern part of San Bernardino County. It is bordered by the cities of Chino Hills to the west, Ontario to the north, and Eastvale to the south. The Santa Ana River flows along the southern boundary of the city.

Demographics

As of the 2020 census, Chino had a population of approximately 91,403 residents. The city has a diverse demographic makeup, with a significant Hispanic and Latino population.

Economy

Chino's economy has historically been based on agriculture, particularly dairy farming. However, in recent years, the city has seen growth in retail, manufacturing, and logistics industries. The Chino Valley Medical Center is one of the major employers in the area.

Education

Chino is served by the Chino Valley Unified School District, which includes several elementary, middle, and high schools. The city is also home to the Chaffey College Chino Campus, providing higher education opportunities to residents.

Transportation

Chino is accessible via several major highways, including the SR 60 and SR 71. Public transportation is provided by the Omnitrans bus service.

Parks and Recreation

The city offers numerous parks and recreational facilities, including the Chino Hills State Park, which provides hiking, biking, and equestrian trails. The Chino Youth Museum is a popular destination for families.
