Ken Grossman
Ken Grossman is an American businessman and the founder of Sierra Nevada Brewing Company, one of the largest and most successful craft breweries in the United States. Grossman is widely recognized for his contributions to the craft beer movement and his innovative approach to brewing.
Early Life
Ken Grossman was born in 1954 in Los Angeles, California. He developed an interest in brewing at a young age, inspired by his passion for science and chemistry. Grossman began homebrewing in his teenage years, experimenting with different recipes and techniques.
Founding of Sierra Nevada Brewing Company
In 1978, Grossman moved to Chico, California, where he opened a homebrew supply store. In 1980, he founded the Sierra Nevada Brewing Company with his friend Paul Camusi. The brewery was named after the Sierra Nevada mountain range, which Grossman admired for its natural beauty.
Grossman and Camusi started the brewery with a small 10-barrel brewing system, which Grossman built himself using recycled dairy equipment. The brewery's first beer, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, quickly gained popularity for its bold flavor and high quality. This beer is often credited with helping to define the American Pale Ale style.
Growth and Expansion

In 1997, Sierra Nevada opened a new state-of-the-art brewing facility in Chico, which significantly increased its production capabilities.
In 2014, Sierra Nevada opened a second brewery in Mills River, North Carolina, to better serve the East Coast market. This facility also includes a taproom and restaurant, offering visitors a chance to experience the brewery's offerings firsthand.
