The PGA Tour is the premier professional golf tour in the United States, organizing most of the events on the annual PGA Tour schedule. It is a membership organization of professional golfers, and it operates the main professional golf tours played primarily by men in the United States and North America.

History

The PGA Tour was established in 1929 as a division of the Professional Golfers' Association of America (PGA of America). In 1968, the tour players broke away from the PGA of America to form a separate entity, which became known as the "Tournament Players Division." This division was renamed the "PGA Tour" in 1975.

Structure

The PGA Tour is governed by a board of directors and a commissioner. The current commissioner is Jay Monahan, who has held the position since 2017. The tour is responsible for organizing and overseeing a series of golf tournaments, including the FedEx Cup, which is the season-long points competition culminating in the Tour Championship.

Tournaments

The PGA Tour hosts a variety of tournaments throughout the year, including:

These tournaments are part of the "Majors," which are the most prestigious events in professional golf.

Membership

Membership on the PGA Tour is highly competitive. Players can earn their tour card through various means, including finishing in the top 125 on the previous season's FedEx Cup points list, graduating from the Korn Ferry Tour, or through sponsor exemptions and qualifying tournaments.

Impact and Influence

The PGA Tour has a significant impact on the sport of golf, both in the United States and internationally. It has helped to popularize the sport and has been instrumental in the development of golf as a professional sport. The tour also contributes to numerous charitable causes through its tournaments and events.
