Eduard Fresenius (1874-1946) was a German pharmacist and entrepreneur, best known as the founder of Fresenius SE & Co. KGaA, a global healthcare group.

Early Life and Education

Eduard Fresenius was born in 1874 in Frankfurt, Germany. He studied pharmacy at the University of Marburg, where he developed a keen interest in the field of pharmacology.

Career

After completing his studies, Fresenius worked as a pharmacist before deciding to start his own business. In 1912, he established the Hirsch Pharmacy in Frankfurt, which later became the foundation of the Fresenius Group.

Fresenius was a pioneer in the production of sterile and injectable pharmaceuticals. His company was one of the first to produce intravenous solutions, which played a crucial role in the treatment of wounded soldiers during World War I.

After the war, Fresenius continued to expand his business, focusing on the production of high-quality pharmaceuticals and medical devices. His commitment to quality and innovation helped the Fresenius Group to become a leading provider of products and services for dialysis, hospitals, and outpatient medical care.

Legacy

Eduard Fresenius died in 1946, but his legacy continues to live on through the Fresenius Group. Today, the company is a global healthcare group, providing products and services for dialysis, hospital care, and outpatient medical care in more than 100 countries.

The Eduard Fresenius Foundation, established in his honor, supports medical research and education, with a particular focus on the fields of pharmacy and medicine.
