Claris is a software company that specializes in the development of database software. The company was originally a subsidiary of Apple Inc., and was known as FileMaker Inc. before it was rebranded as Claris in 2019.

History

Claris was established in 1987 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Apple Inc. The company was initially tasked with the development of software applications for Apple's Macintosh computers. Some of the notable software applications developed by Claris during this period include ClarisWorks, a suite of office applications, and FileMaker, a database management system.

In 1998, Claris was restructured and its non-FileMaker software products were absorbed back into Apple. The remaining entity was renamed FileMaker Inc., and it focused solely on the development and marketing of the FileMaker database software.

In 2019, FileMaker Inc. was rebranded as Claris International Inc. The rebranding was part of a strategy to expand the company's product offerings beyond the FileMaker software.

Products

Claris's main product is the FileMaker Pro database management system. FileMaker Pro is a cross-platform relational database application that integrates a database engine with a graphical user interface. The software allows users to modify the database by dragging new elements into layouts, screens, or forms.

In addition to FileMaker Pro, Claris also offers Claris Connect, a cloud-based integration platform that allows users to automate workflows between different cloud-based services.
