Bepridil is a calcium channel blocker that is used to treat angina pectoris, a type of chest pain caused by reduced blood flow to the heart. It works by relaxing the blood vessels, which allows blood to flow more easily to the heart.

Mechanism of Action

Bepridil works by inhibiting the movement of calcium ions into the cells of the heart and blood vessels. This results in the relaxation of blood vessels, which reduces the amount of work the heart has to do to pump blood, and decreases the heart's oxygen demand.

Uses

Bepridil is used to treat angina pectoris. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by a healthcare provider.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Bepridil include dizziness, headache, and nausea. Serious side effects can include heart failure, severe low blood pressure, and life-threatening heart rhythm disorders.

Precautions

Before taking Bepridil, patients should inform their healthcare provider if they have any other medical conditions, especially heart disease, liver disease, or kidney disease. Bepridil should not be used during pregnancy unless the benefits outweigh the risks.

Interactions

Bepridil can interact with other medications, including other heart medications, certain antibiotics, and certain antifungal medications. Patients should inform their healthcare provider of all medications they are currently taking.

Dosage

The dosage of Bepridil is determined by a healthcare provider and is based on the patient's medical condition and response to treatment.
