The Wright Medical Center is a hospital located in Clarion, Iowa, United States.
History
The Wright Medical Center, originally known as the Community Memorial Hospital, was built in the late 1940s. The hospital underwent several major additions and renovations in subsequent years, including in 1962, 1966, 1972, 1982, 1992, and 1997. In 1997, the hospital completed Project Healthcare, which included the opening of a new nine-bed wing. The hospital admitted its first patient on November 29, 1951.
In 1993, The Meadows independent retirement community was opened adjacent to the hospital. The land for The Meadows was donated by Bob and Jane Davison, with Bob Kay and Bob Eaton contributing to the project.
In 2006, the hospital underwent a $4.5 million remodeling and expansion project, which included the construction of a new addition and the remodeling of the entire building. An 18-unit assisted living facility was also added to The Meadows. In 2010, new operating rooms were built in a south addition.
In 2007, Wright Medical Center and Belmond Medical Center began collaborating to minimize the number of patients leaving Wright County for healthcare. In 2012, the two hospitals restructured and renamed themselves as Iowa Specialty Hospitals & Clinics, with main campuses in Clarion and Belmond. A medical clinic was also opened in Hampton, Iowa.
Summit Award
The Wright Medical Center was recognized as a 2006 Summit Award Winner by Press Ganey Associates. This award is given to facilities that sustain the highest level of customer satisfaction for three or more consecutive years.
