Solo is a term that has various meanings in different contexts. In the context of music, a solo is a piece or a section of a piece played or sung by a single performer. In the context of sports, it refers to an individual performance or achievement, distinct from a team effort. In the context of travel, it refers to traveling alone, without a companion or group.

Music

In music, a solo is a piece or a section of a piece played or sung featuring a single performer, who may be performing completely alone or supported by an accompanying instrument such as a piano or organ, a continuo group (in Baroque music), or the rest of an orchestra, band, choir, or other ensemble. Performing a solo is "to solo", and the performer is known as a soloist.

Sports

In sports, a solo refers to an individual performance or achievement, distinct from a team effort. For example, in Gaelic football and hurling, a solo is an action of a player carrying the ball and running more than four steps with it, after which, the ball must be bounced or "solo-ed", an action of dropping the ball onto the foot and kicking it back into the hand.

Travel

In travel, solo refers to the practice of traveling alone, without a companion or group. Solo travel can be a highly rewarding way to travel, with benefits including more freedom, more time for introspection, and the chance to meet more locals and travelers.
