OPS-301

OPS-301 is a medical classification system used in Germany for procedures in inpatient and outpatient services. It is maintained by the German Institute of Medical Documentation and Information (DIMDI). The OPS-301 is a part of the German Modification of the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems (ICD-10-GM).

History

The OPS-301 was first introduced in Germany in 1989 as a part of the German Modification of the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems (ICD-10-GM). It was initially used for the classification of surgical procedures. Over the years, the system has been expanded and now includes procedures from all medical disciplines.

Structure

The OPS-301 is structured in a hierarchical manner. It consists of a five-character alphanumeric code. The first three characters represent the chapter and section, the fourth character represents the procedure, and the fifth character provides additional information about the procedure.

Usage

The OPS-301 is used in Germany for the classification of procedures in inpatient and outpatient services. It is also used for the calculation of Diagnosis Related Groups (DRGs) in the German healthcare system.
