Scripps Health is a nonprofit health care system based in San Diego, California. It was founded in 1924 by philanthropist Ellen Browning Scripps. The system includes five hospitals and 19 outpatient facilities, serving over half a million patients annually through its network of 2,600 affiliated physicians. Scripps Health also operates clinical research and medical education programs.

The history of Scripps Health can be traced back to 1917 when Ellen Browning Scripps funded the construction of the La Jolla Sanitarium, a new health center in San Diego. The sanitarium provided much-needed healthcare services to the community, especially during the Spanish flu pandemic in 1918. Recognizing the impact of the sanitarium, Scripps later funded the construction of a larger hospital, now known as Scripps Memorial Hospital, which opened in 1924.

In 1995, Scripps Health expanded its network by adding Scripps Mercy Hospital, the oldest hospital in San Diego, founded in 1890. Other facilities within the system include Scripps Green Hospital, Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas, the Scripps Clinic, and Scripps Coastal Medical Center.

In 2002, Scripps Health switched its hospital buying agent from Novation to MedAssets, aiming to save millions of dollars annually on medical supplies. The company has been recognized for its employee benefits and retirement program, ranking 37th on Forbes' list of the "100 Best Companies to Work For" in 2011.
