Sales is a term used to describe the activities that lead to the selling of goods or services. Businesses have sales organizations that are broken down into different teams. And these teams are assigned specific areas such as Business-to-Business sales, Business-to-Consumer sales, and Channel Sales.

Definition[edit]

Sales involves the selling of goods and services from businesses to an end user (customer). Sales is a direct process, in which the salesperson demonstrates the benefits of a product or service to the customer, with the aim of persuading the customer to purchase the product or service.

Types of Sales[edit]

There are several types of sales, including Business-to-Business (B2B), Business-to-Consumer (B2C), and Channel Sales.

Business-to-Business (B2B)[edit]

In B2B sales, businesses sell their products or services to other businesses. This is common in companies that sell software as a service (SaaS), where the product is sold to businesses over the internet.

Business-to-Consumer (B2C)[edit]

In B2C sales, businesses sell their products or services directly to the end user or the consumer. This is common in retail where products are sold to consumers.

Channel Sales[edit]

In channel sales, a company sells its products or services through third parties, such as affiliates, distributors, or resellers.

Sales Process[edit]

The sales process is a set of steps that a salesperson follows to sell a product or service. The steps typically include Prospecting, Qualifying, Approaching, Presenting, Handling objections, Closing, and Follow-up.

Sales Strategies[edit]

Sales strategies are plans that companies implement to drive product sales. There are several types of sales strategies, including Direct Selling, Consultative Selling, Solution Selling, and Value Selling.
