Helmet

A helmet is a form of protective gear worn to protect the head. More specifically, a helmet complements the skull in protecting the human brain. Ceremonial or symbolic helmets (e.g., a policeman's helmet in the United Kingdom) without protective function are sometimes worn. Soldiers wear helmets, often made from lightweight plastic materials.

History[edit]

The oldest known use of helmets was by Assyrian soldiers in 900 BC. They wore leather or bronze helmets to protect the head from blunt objects, sword blows and arrows in combat. Helmets were also used in the 17th and 18th centuries by infantry and cavalry soldiers.

There are many types of helmets. Among them are:

Safety and Effectiveness[edit]

Helmets are designed to protect the head, and sometimes the neck, from injury. They are used in a wide range of sports, occupations, and military engagements. For maximum protection, the helmet must provide a snug fit.
