Benzyl acetate


Benzyl acetate is an organic compound with the molecular formula C9H10O2. It is the ester formed from the condensation reaction of benzyl alcohol and acetic acid. This compound is a clear, colorless liquid that is slightly soluble in water, but highly soluble in most organic solvents such as alcohols, ethers, and chloroform. Benzyl acetate has a pleasant sweet, floral scent reminiscent of jasmine, and because of this, it is widely used in the fragrance industry and as a flavor additive in the food industry.
