Sertaconazole is an antifungal medication used to treat skin infections caused by fungus. It belongs to the class of drugs known as imidazoles and works by stopping the growth of fungus.
Uses
Sertaconazole is used to treat a variety of fungal skin infections such as athlete's foot, jock itch, and ringworm. It may also be used to treat a skin condition known as pityriasis, a fungal infection that causes a lightening or darkening of the skin of the neck, chest, arms, or legs.
How to use
Sertaconazole is usually applied to the affected area twice daily, in the morning and evening, for 2 to 4 weeks. The medication should be applied in a thin layer and rubbed in completely. It is important to continue using the medication for the full time prescribed, even if symptoms disappear after a few days.
Side Effects
Possible side effects of sertaconazole include burning, stinging, swelling, irritation, redness, pimple-like bumps, tenderness, or flaking of the treated skin. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
Precautions
Before using sertaconazole, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to other azole antifungals such as clotrimazole, econazole, or ketoconazole; or if you have any other allergies.
Interactions
Drug interactions may change how your medications work or increase your risk for serious side effects. This document does not contain all possible drug interactions. Keep a list of all the products you use (including prescription/nonprescription drugs and herbal products) and share it with your doctor and pharmacist.
Overdose
If someone has overdosed and has serious symptoms such as passing out or trouble breathing, call 911. Otherwise, call a poison control center right away.
Notes
Do not share this medication with others. This medication has been prescribed for your current condition only. Do not use it later for another infection unless your doctor directs you to do so.
Missed Dose
If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose. Use your next dose at the regular time. Do not double the dose to catch up.
Storage
Store at room temperature away from light and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep all medications away from children and pets.
