Menchi-katsu[edit]

Menchi-katsu is a popular Japanese dish that is a variation of the Western dish, a breaded and deep-fried meat patty. The name "Menchi" is derived from the English word "mince" and "katsu" is a shortened form of "katsuretsu", the Japanese transliteration of the English word "cutlet".

Ingredients[edit]

The main ingredients of Menchi-katsu are ground meat, usually a combination of beef and pork, onions, bread crumbs, and eggs. The meat and onions are sautéed together, then mixed with the bread crumbs and eggs to form a patty. The patty is then breaded in more bread crumbs and deep-fried until golden brown.

Variations[edit]

There are several variations of Menchi-katsu throughout Japan. In some regions, the dish is made with only beef, while in others, it is made with a combination of beef and pork. Some variations also include cheese or other ingredients in the filling.

Serving[edit]

Menchi-katsu is typically served with a side of cabbage and a dipping sauce, such as tonkatsu sauce or Worcestershire sauce. It can also be served as a sandwich, known as a Menchi-katsu sandwich, or as a topping for rice, known as Menchi-katsu donburi.

Popularity[edit]

Menchi-katsu is a popular dish in Japan and can be found in many restaurants and supermarkets. It is also a popular choice for bento boxes due to its ease of eating and delicious taste.
