Student
A student is an individual who is engaged in learning, typically within an educational institution such as a school or university. The term can also be applied to a learner in other settings, such as someone learning a trade under an apprenticeship or a person studying independently.
Etymology[edit]
The word "student" is derived from the Latin word studere, which means "to apply oneself to learning". The term was originally used to refer to anyone who was interested in learning, regardless of their age or educational level.
Types of students[edit]
There are several types of students, categorized based on the level of education they are pursuing or the type of institution they are enrolled in. These include:
- Primary school students: These are students who are in the early stages of formal education, typically between the ages of 5 and 11.
- Secondary school students: These students are in the middle stages of formal education, typically between the ages of 12 and 18.
- University students: These are students who are pursuing higher education, typically leading to a degree such as a bachelor's, master's, or doctorate.
- Adult education students: These are individuals who are pursuing education later in life, often for personal enrichment or to gain new skills for career advancement.
Roles and responsibilities[edit]
Students have several roles and responsibilities, which can vary based on the type of student and the educational institution. These can include:
- Learning: The primary role of a student is to learn and acquire knowledge in their chosen field of study.
- Participation: Students are expected to actively participate in their education, including attending classes, completing assignments, and engaging in discussions.
- Respect: Students are expected to show respect for their teachers, peers, and the educational institution.
