Skippers Seafood & Chowder House is a U.S.-based fast food restaurant chain that specializes in seafood dishes, particularly chowder and fish and chips. Founded in Bellevue, Washington in 1969, the chain has undergone several ownership changes and currently operates in several states across the U.S.
History[edit]
Skippers Seafood & Chowder House was founded by Herb Rosen in 1969. The first location was in Bellevue, Washington. The chain quickly expanded throughout the Pacific Northwest, becoming a popular choice for fast, casual seafood dining.
In the 1980s, Skippers was sold to Pet, Inc., a large food conglomerate. Under Pet, Inc., the chain expanded further, reaching over 200 locations at its peak. However, the rapid expansion led to financial difficulties, and Skippers filed for bankruptcy in 1989.
The chain was purchased out of bankruptcy by a group of investors in 1990, who attempted to revitalize the brand. Despite their efforts, Skippers continued to struggle financially and filed for bankruptcy again in 2006. The chain was then sold to a group of franchisees, who continue to operate the remaining locations.
Menu[edit]
Skippers Seafood & Chowder House is known for its seafood menu, which includes items such as fish and chips, clam chowder, and shrimp. The chain also offers a variety of other dishes, including chicken, salad, and burgers.
