Logic Pro is a digital audio workstation (DAW) and MIDI sequencer software application for the macOS platform. It was originally created in the early 1990s as Notator Logic, or Logic, by German software developer C-Lab which later went by Emagic.
History[edit]
Apple Inc. acquired Emagic in 2002 and Logic Pro became part of Apple's suite of music software, which includes GarageBand, a simplified version of Logic Pro. The software provides songwriters, producers, and engineers with a comprehensive set of tools to create, record, edit, and mix music.
Features[edit]
Logic Pro provides users with a vast array of capabilities for music production. These include audio recording, MIDI sequencing, and a wide range of built-in instruments, effects, and samples. It also includes features for score editing, loop production, and advanced mixing.
Audio Recording[edit]
Logic Pro supports up to 255 audio tracks, which can include recorded audio, imported audio files, and tracks created with the software's built-in instruments. It also supports a variety of audio formats, including WAV, AIFF, and MP3.
MIDI Sequencing[edit]
Logic Pro includes a comprehensive MIDI sequencer for creating and editing music. This includes a piano roll editor, a score editor, and a drum editor. The software also includes a variety of MIDI effects, such as arpeggiators and chord triggers.
Instruments and Effects[edit]
Logic Pro includes a wide range of built-in instruments and effects. These include synthesizers, samplers, drum machines, and a variety of audio effects such as reverb, delay, and EQ. The software also supports third-party VST and AU plugins.
Score Editing[edit]
For composers and arrangers, Logic Pro includes a comprehensive score editor. This allows users to create and edit sheet music, either from MIDI data or by entering notes manually.
Loop Production[edit]
Logic Pro includes a loop browser, which allows users to browse and use a large library of audio and MIDI loops. These can be used to quickly create backing tracks or to add extra elements to a production.
Advanced Mixing[edit]
Logic Pro includes a comprehensive set of tools for mixing audio. This includes a mixer with up to 255 channels, automation capabilities, and a variety of audio effects.
