History

OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center was established on August 18, 1899, when six Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis moved to Rockford to open a hospital. The sisters had relocated to America from Prussia in 1875. With the assistance of real estate agent William Crotty, they purchased a house on East State St. and Summit St., which became the first hospital in the area.
