MEDLINE

MEDLINE is a bibliographic database of life sciences and biomedical information. It includes bibliographic information for articles from academic journals covering medicine, nursing, pharmacy, dentistry, veterinary medicine, and health care. MEDLINE also covers much of the literature in biology and biochemistry, as well as fields such as molecular evolution.

History

MEDLINE was created by the United States National Library of Medicine (NLM), and is the primary component of PubMed, one of the databases in the NLM Catalog. The database contains more than 26 million references to journal articles in life sciences, with a concentration on biomedicine. The articles are indexed with Medical Subject Headings (MeSH).

Content

MEDLINE's content is primarily academic journal articles in the field of medicine. The database contains references to over 5,600 journals published in the United States and more than 80 other countries. The content is created by a team of over 60 subject specialists who review and index the journals.

Access

Access to MEDLINE is available free of charge on the Internet via the PubMed interface. The database is searchable by a number of fields, including author, title, abstract, and MeSH terms. In addition, the database can be accessed via various third-party platforms and services.
