Long Branch is a city located in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. It is one of the largest cities in the county and is known for its rich history, diverse population, and beautiful beachfront.
History
Long Branch was formed on April 11, 1867, as the Long Branch Commission, from portions of Ocean Township. The city was incorporated in 1903. It was named for the "long branch" or arm of the Shrewsbury River. The city has been a popular seaside resort since the late 18th century.
Geography
Long Branch is located on the Atlantic Ocean's Jersey Shore. It is approximately 50 miles south of New York City and 80 miles northeast of Philadelphia. The city's beachfront is one of its most popular features, attracting visitors from all over the region.
Demographics
As of the 2010 United States Census, the city's population was 30,719, reflecting a decline of 621 (-2.0%) from the 31,340 counted in the 2000 Census.
Economy
The economy of Long Branch is diverse, with a mix of small businesses, retail, and service industries. The city is also home to Monmouth Medical Center, a large hospital that is one of the city's largest employers.
Education
The Long Branch Public Schools serve students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade. The district is one of 31 former Abbott districts statewide, which are now referred to as "SDA Districts" based on the requirement for the state to cover all costs for school building and renovation projects in these districts under the supervision of the New Jersey Schools Development Authority.
Transportation
Long Branch is served by New Jersey Transit trains on the North Jersey Coast Line. It is also served by several major roads, including Route 36, Route 71, and the Garden State Parkway.

Many notable people have lived in or visited Long Branch, including seven U.S. Presidents who vacationed in the city.
