Eric Hentges is an American nutritionist and the former Executive Director of the International Life Sciences Institute's North American branch. He has also served as the Executive Director of the USDA's Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion.
Early Life and Education
Hentges was born and raised in the United States. He completed his undergraduate studies in Animal Science at the Iowa State University. He then went on to earn a Master's degree in Animal Nutrition from the same institution. Hentges also holds a Ph.D. in Nutritional Sciences from the University of Maryland.
Career
Hentges began his career as a nutritionist in the private sector. He later joined the USDA's Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion as the Executive Director. During his tenure, he was instrumental in the development and promotion of the 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans and the MyPyramid food guidance system.
In 2007, Hentges left the USDA to join the International Life Sciences Institute (ILSI) as the Executive Director of its North American branch. At ILSI, he worked on various projects related to food safety, nutrition, and health.
Contributions to Nutrition Science
Hentges has made significant contributions to the field of nutrition science. His work on the 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans and the MyPyramid food guidance system has had a lasting impact on the way Americans understand and approach their dietary needs.
