Dan is a common given name, often a short form of Daniel. It is also used in some languages as a short form for names including Daniela, Danylo, Bogdan, Radovan, and Radosław. It is a common name in many Western societies, and it is also prevalent in Israel, where it means "judge" in Hebrew.
Etymology
The name Dan comes from an ancient Hebrew word, דָּן, which means "to judge". It was the name of one of the twelve tribes of Israel in the Bible. The tribe was named after Dan, the fifth son of Jacob and the first son of Bilhah, Rachel's maid.
