Bloomington is a city in Monroe County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. It is the county seat and the largest city in the county. Bloomington is known for being the home of Indiana University Bloomington, which is the flagship campus of the Indiana University system.

Bloomington was established in 1818 by a group of settlers from Kentucky, Tennessee, the Carolinas, and Virginia. The name "Bloomington" was chosen to reflect "a haven of blooms" as the area was rich in flora.
