Rome is a city in Oneida County, New York, United States. It is located in the central part of the state, northwest of Utica. Rome is one of two principal cities in the Utica-Rome, New York Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History[edit]

Rome was first settled in the late 18th century and was originally known as Lynchville. The city played a significant role during the American Revolutionary War, particularly with the construction of Fort Stanwix, which was pivotal in the defense against British forces. The fort was the site of the Siege of Fort Stanwix in 1777, which was a key event in the Saratoga campaign.
