Troy is a city in Rensselaer County, in the U.S. state of New York. Located on the eastern bank of the Hudson River, Troy is one of the three major cities that make up the Capital District of New York State, along with Albany and Schenectady.

Troy was settled in the 1780s and incorporated as a city in 1816. It quickly became a thriving industrial center, known for its iron and steel production. The city's location on the Hudson River facilitated trade and transportation, contributing to its growth during the 19th century.
