Bubba Wallace (born October 8, 1993), whose full name is William Darrell "Bubba" Wallace Jr., is an American professional stock car driver. He competes full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series, driving the No. 23 Toyota Camry for 23XI Racing, a team he co-owns with Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin.
Early Life
Wallace was born in Mobile, Alabama, and began his racing career in the Bandolero and Legends car racing series, as well as local late model events, at the age of nine.
Career
Wallace is noted for being one of the most successful African American drivers in the history of NASCAR. He has six victories in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, and became the first African American to win a NASCAR series race since Wendell Scott in 1963.
In 2018, Wallace became the first full-time African American driver in the Cup Series since Scott, driving the No. 43 Chevrolet for Richard Petty Motorsports. In 2021, he moved to 23XI Racing and won his first Cup Series race at Talladega Superspeedway, becoming the second African American driver, after Scott, to win at the series' highest level.
Personal Life
Wallace is an advocate for racial equality and has used his platform to promote social justice. In 2020, he successfully pushed for NASCAR to ban the Confederate flag at its events.
