Tetryzoline is a type of medicine known as a decongestant. It is used to relieve redness, puffiness, and itchy/watering eyes due to colds, allergies, or eye irritations (smog, swimming, or wearing contact lenses). It is known as a sympathomimetic (alpha receptor agonist) that works in the eye to decrease congestion.
Uses
Tetryzoline is used to relieve redness due to minor eye irritations, such as those caused by colds, dust, wind, smog, pollen, swimming, or wearing contact lenses.
Side Effects
Some common side effects of Tetryzoline include:
- Temporary burning/stinging/itchiness of the eye
- Temporary blurred vision
- Headache
- Sweating
- Nervousness
- Fast heartbeat
- Rash
- Itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat)
- Severe dizziness
- Trouble breathing
Precautions
Before using Tetryzoline, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients (such as preservatives like benzalkonium chloride), which can cause allergic reactions or other problems.
Interactions

Overdose
