GMA Network, also known as the Kapuso Network, is a major commercial television and radio network in the Philippines. It is owned by GMA Network Inc., a publicly listed company. The network is headquartered in Quezon City and is one of the leading television networks in the country.

History[edit]

GMA Network was founded on June 14, 1950, by American war correspondent Robert Stewart as a radio station, DZBB-AM. The station was initially known as "The Voice of the Philippines" and was located in Manila.

In 1961, the company ventured into television broadcasting with the launch of DZBB-TV, Channel 7. The network was initially known as "RBS TV Channel 7" and later rebranded as "GMA Radio-Television Arts" in the 1970s.

During the Martial Law era, GMA was one of the few networks that remained operational, albeit under strict government control. After the People Power Revolution in 1986, GMA Network regained its independence and began to expand its programming and reach.
