Bernard Accoyer (born 12 August 1945) is a French politician who served as the President of the National Assembly of France from 2007 to 2012. He is a member of the The Republicans (formerly known as the Union for a Popular Movement, UMP).
Early Life and Education[edit]
Bernard Accoyer was born in Lyon, France. He studied medicine and became an otorhinolaryngologist, a specialist in ear, nose, and throat (ENT) medicine.
Political Career[edit]
Accoyer began his political career as a member of the Union for French Democracy (UDF). He was elected mayor of Annecy-le-Vieux in 1989, a position he held until 2014. In 1993, he was elected to the National Assembly representing the Haute-Savoie department.
President of the National Assembly[edit]
In 2007, following the legislative elections, Bernard Accoyer was elected President of the National Assembly. During his tenure, he focused on modernizing the parliamentary procedures and improving the efficiency of the legislative process. He served in this role until 2012.
Later Career[edit]
After his term as President of the National Assembly, Accoyer continued to be active in politics. He was re-elected to the National Assembly in subsequent elections and remained a prominent figure within The Republicans party.
Personal Life[edit]
Bernard Accoyer is married and has three children. He continues to reside in Annecy-le-Vieux.
