John D. Cherry is an American politician who served as the 62nd Lieutenant Governor of Michigan from 2003 to 2011. He is a member of the Democratic Party.

Early Life and Education

John D. Cherry was born on May 5, 1951, in Saint Paul, Minnesota. He attended the University of Michigan, where he earned a bachelor's degree in political science. He later received a master's degree in public administration from the University of Michigan.

Political Career

Cherry began his political career as a member of the Michigan House of Representatives, serving from 1983 to 1986. He then served in the Michigan Senate from 1987 to 2002. During his tenure in the Senate, he held various leadership positions, including Senate Minority Leader.

In 2002, Cherry was elected as the Lieutenant Governor of Michigan alongside Governor Jennifer Granholm. He was re-elected in 2006 and served until 2011. As Lieutenant Governor, Cherry focused on issues such as economic development, education, and environmental protection.

Post-Political Career

After leaving office, Cherry continued to be active in public service and community affairs. He has served on various boards and committees, contributing to policy discussions and civic engagement.

Personal Life

John D. Cherry is married to Pam Faris, who is also a politician. They have two children. The family resides in Flint, Michigan.
