Brooklyn Public Library

Brooklyn Public Library (BPL) is the public library system of the borough of Brooklyn in New York City. It is the fifth largest public library system in the United States. Like the two other public library systems in New York City, it is an independent nonprofit organization that is funded by the New York City and State governments, the federal government, and private donors.

History

The Brooklyn Public Library was established in 1896, following the merger of Brooklyn with New York City. The library system has seen significant growth and change over its more than 100-year history, with expansions and renovations to many of its branches.

Branches

The Brooklyn Public Library system includes 60 neighborhood branches spread throughout the borough, including the Central Library, which is the main reference and circulation library.

Services

The Brooklyn Public Library offers a wide range of services to the community, including access to books, periodicals, digital media, and other resources. It also provides educational programs, literacy services, and cultural events.

Central Library

The Central Library, located at Grand Army Plaza, is the main library of the Brooklyn Public Library system. It houses extensive collections in the humanities, social sciences, and the arts.
