Mid-Somerset Show is an annual one-day agricultural show held in Shepton Mallet, Somerset, England. The show has been running since 1856 and is the largest free agricultural show in the South West of England. It is organised by the Mid-Somerset Agricultural Society and takes place on the third Sunday in August.

History[edit]

The first Mid-Somerset Show was held in 1856, making it one of the oldest agricultural shows in the UK. The show was originally held in the market town of Shepton Mallet, but moved to a larger site on the outskirts of the town in the late 20th century to accommodate its growing popularity.

Events[edit]

The Mid-Somerset Show features a wide range of events and attractions, including livestock competitions, horse and dog shows, and a large horticultural marquee. There are also numerous trade stands selling everything from farm machinery to local food and drink. The show is particularly well-known for its cheese and cider competitions, which attract entries from across the South West.

Livestock[edit]

The livestock competitions at the Mid-Somerset Show are a major highlight. These include classes for cattle, sheep, pigs and goats, with prizes awarded for the best animals in each category. The show also features a popular poultry section, with classes for chickens, ducks, geese and turkeys.

Horticulture[edit]

The horticultural marquee at the Mid-Somerset Show is a showcase for the region's gardeners and growers. It features displays of flowers, vegetables and fruit, as well as classes for home-made preserves and baked goods.

Cheese and Cider[edit]

The cheese and cider competitions at the Mid-Somerset Show are among the most popular events. The show attracts entries from many of the region's top cheese makers and cider producers, with prizes awarded for the best products in a range of categories.
