KultureCity is a non-profit organization based in Birmingham, Alabama, United States. It was founded in 2013 by Dr. Julian Maha and his wife Dr. Michele Kong. The organization aims to create a world where all individuals with autism and their families feel accepted and included. KultureCity is known for its sensory inclusive initiative, which has been implemented in numerous venues across the United States.

History[edit]

KultureCity was founded in 2013 by Dr. Julian Maha, an emergency medicine physician, and his wife Dr. Michele Kong, a pediatric critical care physician. They were inspired to start the organization after their son was diagnosed with autism. The couple realized that there were limited resources and support available for families dealing with autism, and they wanted to change that.

Initiatives[edit]

KultureCity's main initiative is the Sensory Inclusive program. This program aims to help businesses and community spaces become more inclusive for individuals with sensory needs. The program provides training for staff, sensory bags with noise-canceling headphones and fidget tools, and signage to indicate that the location is sensory inclusive.

Partnerships[edit]

KultureCity has partnered with numerous organizations and venues to implement their Sensory Inclusive program. Some of these partners include the NBA, NFL, NHL, and MLB teams, as well as zoos, schools, and restaurants.

Recognition[edit]

KultureCity has been recognized for its work in promoting inclusivity. In 2019, it was named one of the World's Most Innovative Companies by Fast Company.
