Cooker is a term often used to refer to a variety of appliances used in the preparation of food. The term can refer to a range of devices including stoves, ovens, slow cookers, rice cookers, and pressure cookers. Each of these devices has a unique function and method of operation, but all are designed to aid in the cooking process.
Types of Cookers[edit]
Stove[edit]
A stove is a cooker that uses direct heat for cooking. It typically has burners on the top for cooking in pots and pans, and an oven below where food is cooked inside.
Oven[edit]
An oven is a type of cooker that cooks food by surrounding it with hot air. This method of cooking is known as baking. Ovens can be standalone units, or part of a larger stove.
Slow Cooker[edit]
A slow cooker, also known as a crock-pot, is a countertop electrical cooking appliance that is used for simmering, which requires maintaining a relatively low temperature.
Rice Cooker[edit]
A rice cooker is an automated kitchen appliance designed to boil or steam rice. It consists of a heat source, a cooking bowl, and a thermostat.
Pressure Cooker[edit]
A pressure cooker is a sealed pot with a valve that controls the steam pressure inside. As the pot heats up, the liquid inside forms steam, which raises the pressure in the pot.
