FHL2, also known as Four and a half LIM domains 2, is a protein that in humans is encoded by the FHL2 gene. FHL2 is a member of the four-and-a-half-LIM-only protein family. It is a protein that in humans is encoded by the FHL2 gene.
Function[edit]
FHL2 is a member of the four-and-a-half-LIM-only protein family. LIM domains are highly conserved cysteine-rich structures containing 2 zinc fingers. Four-and-a-half LIM protein 2 interacts with various proteins and may serve as a link between different signaling pathways. Its expression prohibits cell differentiation and promotes cell proliferation in conjunction with the growth factor TGF-beta.
Clinical significance[edit]
This gene has been found to be mutated in several types of cancer, and the encoded protein may act as a tumor suppressor, with mutations leading to reduced protein expression in tumors.
