Hillingdon Hospital

Hillingdon Hospital is a district general hospital located in Pield Heath Road, Hillingdon, Greater London. It is part of The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, along with Mount Vernon Hospital.

History

The hospital has its origins in a workhouse infirmary built in 1838. A separate female infirmary was added in 1907. In 1929, the facility came under the management of Middlesex County Council, which started developing the site in 1932. The hospital was damaged by bombs in October 1940, leading to its temporary relocation. After the war, the hospital faced a decline in beds due to staff shortages. In 1948, it joined the National Health Service in a state of disrepair. In 1957, plans were made to rebuild the hospital, and in 1960, a new maternity wing was opened. The new Hillingdon Hospital was officially opened in 1967 by Sir Arnold France, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health. The hospital featured new wards, outpatient departments, imaging services, accident and emergency services, operating theatres, and more. In December 2008, Bevan Ward, named after the founder of the NHS, was opened.

The hospital is affiliated with Imperial College London, Brunel University London, and Buckinghamshire New University. It has 509 beds and provides district general healthcare services. Hillingdon Hospital is known for its emergency services and is part of the NHS England.
