Braeval Distillery is a whisky distillery located in Chapeltown, Moray, Scotland. It was founded in 1973 by the renowned whisky producers, Chivas Brothers. The distillery is currently owned by Pernod Ricard, a French spirits and wine company.
History[edit]
Braeval Distillery, originally known as Braes of Glenlivet Distillery, was established in 1973 to meet the growing demand for single malt Scotch whisky. The distillery was built in the Speyside region of Scotland, known for its rich whisky heritage.
In 1994, the distillery was temporarily closed due to a decline in demand for whisky. However, it was reopened in 2001 under the new name, Braeval Distillery. The reopening was accompanied by a rebranding of the distillery's flagship product, which was renamed as Braeval Single Malt Scotch Whisky.
Production[edit]
Braeval Distillery has a production capacity of 4 million litres per year. The distillery uses traditional copper pot stills to produce its whisky. The water used in the production process is sourced from nearby springs, known for their purity and mineral content.
The whisky produced at Braeval Distillery is known for its smooth and delicate flavor profile. It is often described as having notes of honey, vanilla, and floral undertones. The whisky is aged in oak casks, which impart additional flavors and aromas to the final product.
Visitor Experience[edit]
Braeval Distillery offers guided tours to visitors, providing them with an opportunity to learn about the whisky-making process and the history of the distillery. The tours include a visit to the production facilities, where visitors can witness the various stages of whisky production.
Visitors also have the chance to sample different expressions of Braeval Single Malt Scotch Whisky, allowing them to appreciate the unique characteristics of the distillery's products. The distillery's visitor center also features a gift shop where visitors can purchase bottles of Braeval whisky and other related merchandise.
