Genin (下忍, literally meaning: "Low Ninja", "Junior Ninja", or "Lower Ninja") is the lowest rank in the ninja hierarchy in the Naruto series. Genin are typically young and inexperienced ninja who have recently graduated from the Ninja Academy and are assigned to a three-man cell under the guidance of a jōnin-level instructor.

Overview[edit]

Genin are the lowest level of ninja and are often given the most basic and least dangerous missions, known as D-rank missions. These missions can include tasks such as weeding gardens, finding lost pets, and other menial jobs. As they gain experience and demonstrate their abilities, genin may be assigned more challenging C-rank missions.

Training and Skills[edit]

Genin are trained in the basic skills of ninjutsu, taijutsu, and genjutsu. They are also taught the importance of teamwork and strategy, as they often work in groups of three under the supervision of a jōnin. The training they receive is designed to prepare them for the more advanced techniques and responsibilities they will encounter as they progress to higher ranks.

Promotion[edit]

To advance from genin to the next rank, chūnin, genin must participate in the Chūnin Exams. These exams test their skills, intelligence, and ability to work under pressure. The exams are divided into several stages, including written tests, survival exercises, and one-on-one combat. Only those who demonstrate exceptional skill and potential are promoted to chūnin.

Notable Genin[edit]
