Pierre Pomet (1658–1699) was a French pharmacist and botanist known for his influential work, Histoire générale des drogues.

Pomet was born in Paris in 1658. He studied pharmacy and botany, two fields that were closely linked during the 17th century.
Career[edit]
In 1682, Pomet was appointed as the chief druggist to Louis XIV. His role involved sourcing and preparing medicinal plants and other substances used in the treatment of disease.
In 1694, Pomet published his most famous work, Histoire générale des drogues. This comprehensive guide to pharmacology and herbal medicine included descriptions of medicinal plants from around the world, along with their uses and preparation methods. The book was widely read and translated into several languages, contributing to the spread of knowledge about medicinal plants and drugs in Europe.
