Magners Irish Cider, also known as Bulmers in the Republic of Ireland, is a brand of cider produced in County Tipperary in Ireland by the C&C Group. The product is distributed by the Magners GB division in the United Kingdom, and by the Bulmers Ireland division in Ireland.

History[edit]

The company was established in 1935 by William Magner. The name was later changed to Bulmers, after local man Percy Bulmer, who was the son of the founder of the Bulmers cider company in the United Kingdom. The two companies, although sharing a similar history and heritage, are not connected.

In 2006, the product was launched in the UK under the brand name Magners, to avoid confusion with the British Bulmers cider. The launch campaign, which included a significant advertising and marketing spend, is credited with reviving the cider market in the UK.

Production[edit]

Magners is produced from 17 varieties of apples, fermented and matured for up to two years. The apples are harvested from the orchards located in the counties of Tipperary and Waterford. The cider is free from artificial sweeteners, flavours and colours.

Varieties[edit]

Magners is available in a number of varieties, including Original, Pear and Berry. The Original is a traditional Irish cider with a crisp, refreshing flavour and a natural authentic character. The Pear variety is made from 100% pear juice and offers a smooth and sophisticated taste. The Berry variety is a blend of 17 varieties of apple, infused with blackcurrants, strawberries and raspberries.

Market[edit]

Magners is sold in over 40 countries worldwide. It is particularly popular in the UK and Ireland, where it is often served over ice in a pint glass. The brand is also growing in popularity in the United States and Australia.
