World Food Day[edit]
World Food Day is a global observance that is celebrated every year on October 16. The day is dedicated to tackling global hunger and is observed by millions of people from around the world who come together to declare their commitment to eradicate worldwide hunger.
History[edit]
World Food Day was established by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations in November 1979. The date, October 16, was chosen to commemorate the founding of the FAO in 1945. The first World Food Day was observed in 1981.
Purpose[edit]
The main aim of World Food Day is to raise awareness about the issues behind poverty and hunger. It is a day of action dedicated to tackling global hunger. People from around the world are encouraged to declare their commitment to eradicate worldwide hunger from our lifetime.
