Dell is an American multinational computer technology company that develops, sells, repairs, and supports computers and related products and services. Named after its founder, Michael Dell, the company is one of the largest technology corporations in the world, employing more than 165,000 people in the U.S. and around the world.

History[edit]

Dell was founded by Michael Dell, a student at the University of Texas at Austin, in his dorm room in 1984. It was initially named PC's Limited. The company changed its name to Dell Computer Corporation in 1988 and began expanding globally. In 2004, it became simply Dell Inc. to signify a move into the broader consumer electronics market.

Products and Services[edit]

Dell's products include personal computers, servers, smartphones, televisions, computer software, computer security and network security, as well as information security services. Dell's Home Office/Consumer class includes luxury brands like Alienware, XPS, and Inspiron.
