Powers (whiskey)[edit]
Powers is a brand of Irish whiskey. Historically, the Powers distillery was established in 1791 by James Power, an innkeeper from Dublin. The brand is now produced by the Irish Distillers subsidiary of Pernod Ricard, a French company.
History[edit]
The Powers distillery was founded in 1791 by James Power, in the John's Lane area of Dublin. The distillery was initially located on Thomas Street, but as the business expanded, it moved to a larger site on John's Lane. By the end of the 19th century, Powers was one of the biggest distilleries in Ireland.
Production[edit]
Powers whiskey is triple-distilled, the same as all other Irish whiskeys. The process involves distilling the whiskey three times, which results in a smoother and more refined taste. The whiskey is then aged in oak casks for a minimum of three years.
Varieties[edit]
There are several varieties of Powers whiskey, including Powers Gold Label, Powers Three Swallow, and Powers John's Lane Release. Each variety has its own unique taste and character, but all are known for their smoothness and complexity.
Powers Gold Label[edit]
Powers Gold Label is the most popular and best-selling variety of Powers whiskey. It is known for its spicy and bold flavor, with notes of honey, citrus, and oak.
Powers Three Swallow[edit]
Powers Three Swallow is a single pot still whiskey, which means it is made from a mix of malted and unmalted barley in a single pot still. This gives it a richer and more complex flavor than other types of whiskey.
Powers John's Lane Release[edit]
Powers John's Lane Release is a 12-year-old single pot still whiskey. It is named after the original Powers distillery on John's Lane in Dublin. This whiskey is known for its full-bodied and complex flavor, with notes of spice, fruit, and oak.
