) is a Chinese multinational technology company with headquarters in Beijing, China, and Morrisville, North Carolina, United States. It designs, develops, manufactures, and sells personal computers, tablet computers, smartphones, workstations, servers, electronic storage devices, IT management software, and smart televisions.
History[edit]
Lenovo was founded in 1984 in Beijing by a team of engineers led by Liu Chuanzhi. Initially, the company was known as Legend. In 2003, the company rebranded to Lenovo, a portmanteau of "Le-" (from Legend) and "novo," Latin for "new."
In 2005, Lenovo acquired IBM's personal computer business, including the ThinkPad laptop and ThinkCentre desktop lines. This acquisition made Lenovo the third-largest computer maker worldwide. In 2014, Lenovo acquired Motorola Mobility from Google, further expanding its smartphone business.
