It designs, develops, manufactures, and sells personal computers, tablet computers, smartphones, workstations, servers, electronic storage devices, IT management software, and smart televisions.

History[edit]

Lenovo was founded in 1984 in Beijing by a team of engineers led by Liu Chuanzhi. Initially, the company was known as Legend. In 2003, the company rebranded to Lenovo, a portmanteau of "Le-" (from Legend) and "novo," Latin for "new."

In 2005, Lenovo acquired IBM's personal computer business, including the ThinkPad laptop and ThinkCentre desktop lines. This acquisition made Lenovo the third-largest computer maker worldwide. In 2014, Lenovo acquired Motorola Mobility from Google, further expanding its smartphone business.

Lenovo is a publicly traded company listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and the OTC Pink market. The company's largest shareholder is Legend Holdings, a Chinese investment company.
