Petrosal may refer to:
- Petrosal bone, a bone in the human skull
- Petrosal sinus, a part of the venous system of the skull
- Petrosal ganglion, a sensory ganglion of the facial nerve (VII)
Petrosal Bone[edit]
The petrosal bone or petrous part of the temporal bone is pyramid-shaped and is wedged in at the base of the skull between the sphenoid and occipital bones.
Structure[edit]
The petrosal bone is situated at the base of the skull, centered on the temporal bone. It houses the inner ear, making it one of the densest bones in the body.
Petrosal Sinus[edit]
The petrosal sinuses are part of the dural venous sinuses system. They are divided into two, the superior and inferior petrosal sinuses.
Superior Petrosal Sinus[edit]
The superior petrosal sinus drains the cavernous sinus into the sigmoid sinus.
Inferior Petrosal Sinus[edit]
The inferior petrosal sinus drains the cavernous sinus into the internal jugular vein.
Petrosal Ganglion[edit]
The petrosal ganglion is a small sensory ganglion of the facial nerve (VII) located in the facial canal in the skull.
