John Ternus is an American business executive and the current Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering at Apple Inc., a multinational technology company. He is known for his significant contributions to the development of several Apple products, including the iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
Early Life and Education[edit]
John Ternus was born and raised in the United States. He pursued his higher education at the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Career[edit]
Ternus began his career at Apple Inc. in 2001 as a product design engineer. He was part of the team that worked on the first generation iMac, a line of all-in-one Macintosh desktop computers. His expertise and dedication led to his promotion to the role of Vice President of Hardware Engineering in 2013.
As Vice President, Ternus led the team responsible for the hardware design of the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. He played a crucial role in the development of innovative technologies and designs, including the Retina display and the Touch ID fingerprint recognition system.
In 2020, Ternus was promoted to Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering, succeeding Dan Riccio. In this role, he oversees all hardware engineering work, including the design and production of all Apple devices.
