Racing Career[edit]
Gamely began her racing career as a two-year-old in 1966. She quickly made a name for herself with her impressive performances on the track. Over her career, she competed in numerous prestigious races and often faced off against both fillies and colts.
Notable Wins[edit]
Some of Gamely's most notable victories include:
- The Santa Susana Stakes (now known as the Santa Anita Oaks) in 1967
- The Vanity Handicap in 1968 and 1969
- The Santa Margarita Invitational Handicap in 1968
- The Beldame Stakes in 1968
Awards and Honors[edit]
Gamely's outstanding performances earned her several accolades. She was named the American Champion Older Female Horse in 1968 and 1969. Her legacy was further cemented when she was inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in 1980.
Broodmare Career[edit]
After retiring from racing, Gamely had a successful career as a broodmare. She produced several foals, some of which went on to have successful racing careers of their own.
Legacy[edit]
Gamely's impact on the racing world is remembered through the Gamely Stakes, a Grade I race held annually at Santa Anita Park. This race serves as a tribute to her remarkable career and contributions to Thoroughbred racing.
