ADCYAP1R1 (Adenylate Cyclase Activating Polypeptide 1 Receptor 1) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the ADCYAP1R1 gene. This receptor is a member of the G protein-coupled receptor family, and is involved in a variety of physiological processes.
Function[edit]
The ADCYAP1R1 receptor is primarily involved in the regulation of adenylate cyclase activity. This is achieved through the binding of its ligand, pituitary adenylate cyclase activating polypeptide (PACAP). PACAP is a potent activator of adenylate cyclase, and its interaction with ADCYAP1R1 can lead to increased levels of cyclic AMP in the cell.
Clinical Significance[edit]
Mutations in the ADCYAP1R1 gene have been associated with a number of disorders. These include post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), migraine, and certain forms of anxiety disorder. Research is ongoing to further understand the role of this receptor in these conditions.
