Yorkshire

Yorkshire is a historic county in northern England. It's known for its Roman and Viking heritage, as well as its Norman castles, medieval abbeys, Industrial Revolution-era cities and 2 national parks. The county town of York, founded by the Romans, is home to a 13th-century cathedral.

History

Yorkshire's history is intertwined with the history of England. Its historical boundaries correspond to the Viking Kingdom of Jorvik, which was in existence from the 9th to the 11th century. The county was first recorded in the 11th century and was originally divided into three sections or "ridings", North, West, and East Yorkshire.

Geography

Yorkshire is the largest county in the United Kingdom, covering an area of almost 6,000 square miles. It is a diverse region, with a range of different landscapes, including the Yorkshire Dales, North York Moors, and the Yorkshire Wolds. The county also includes several major cities, including Leeds, Sheffield, and Bradford.

Yorkshire has a rich cultural heritage, with a strong tradition of music, literature, and sport. The county is also known for its distinctive dialect and accent.

Economy

The economy of Yorkshire is one of the largest regional economies in the UK. It is dominated by the service sector, which accounts for over three-quarters of the region's GDP.
